Review of The New World (2005) by Parker M — 16 Jun 2011
Terrence Malik continues to leave me breathless at the end of each of his movies. I connect so well with his film. He has a tendency to leave all other films in the dust when comparing visuals. They are almost all out nature, and how our human nature interacts with the natural beauty around us. I think that is why I resonate so well with his films. They are fundamentally explaining us by visually explaining the world around us. Each of his films are profound in that way (of which I have seen). You can really write a whole essay on Malik's ability to fuse our humanity with nature, and nature with the spiritual. It's always an experience you won't find with any other director.
I could talk about the film, but it would be redundant because the story being told pales in comparison with the beauty in the filmmaking. It is an excellent representation of the Pocahontus story and very interesting to watch, but the real reason to watch any Malik film is for an intriguing story which is brought to life by the incomparable gorgeous cinematography.
