Review of The New World (2005) by Ale L — 10 Nov 2013
Terrence Malick's trademark of gorgeous cinematography, whispery voiceovers, and philosophical concepts are of no shortage here in this attempt to tell the historically accurate story of Pocahontas.
It's definitely creepier than the Disney version, due to Q'orianka Kilcher (who was 14 at the time for filming) having to play lover to both Colin Farrell's John Smith and Christian Bale's John Rolfe.
It could've been about half an hour shorter, but Terrence Malick effectively makes you feel like you've been transported back in time to the Jamestown settlement. 8/10.
