Review of The New Daughter (2009) by Jay L — 16 May 2012
"How far will one father go to save the ones he loves.".
The New Daughter is most definitely the most formulaic and easily the most run of the mill horror film that I've seen for ages. There is absolutely nothing new here, we've all seen this before. Sure it's got it's fair share of thrills and chills, but it's so formulaic and theres no originality. It worth seeing once, but by no means requires multiple viewings, they could have done so much more with this film and made it so much more appealing, but it falls flat after the first 30 minutes. Director Luis Berdejo and company have provided us with much on the entertainment front, but some of the action sequences were executed rather well. All in all, this was nothing special and the entire production could have been so much more.
Kevin Costner stars and I think it odd that such a huge star with unmatched talent would sink to a roll like this, hes one of my favorite actors so it's rather hard to dislike any of his roles, even if it's as contrived of a performance as this one.
