Review of The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter (1990) by Troy F — 23 Nov 2012
The Neverending Story 2 nearly sucks out everything great about the first film. The lead Jonathan Brandis CAN be a likable actor, but his character can be stupid and annoying, not to mention some stupid lines of dialogue.
OH THE DIALOGUE, THERE WAS ACTUALLY A LOT OF STUPID DIALOGUE IN THIS FILM! I'll give it to the special effects though, they weren't bad, rather good in some scenes, but I'd say a bit dated even for 1990.
Falcor looks like shit, not to mention sounds like a bad deep voiced version of James Earl Jones. Atreyu almost looks like the original which is cool, until you realize how very childish and less heroic he looks comapared to the original, even his battle tactics seem a bit lame.
The film does send off a good message of memories and heart, but that doesn't make it a good movie! But I don't know, it does make the film appropriate for kids, which I'll admit is a minor plus over the darkness of the original.
Still, the movie is predictable in many ways, copies a lot of story elements from the first, and is just full of stupidity, scenes that make you roll your eyes, scenes that makes you scream at Bastian or the logic of the film! It's certainly not horrendous, almost terrible, but I'll say it's very bad! There was a bit of effort put in so I acknowledge that, but I'm scared to watch the third.
I'm giving it a 2 cause it's certainly watchable even if it is boring and a bit painful, it can be enjoyed for laughing at, so it serves for something, but yes it is very bad!
