Review of The NeverEnding Story (1984) by Dale H — 06 May 2010
Wildly imaginative and emotionally resonant, The Neverending Story is a family classic in the truest sense of the word. The 25+ year old special effects still hold up, and the colorful characters and heroic quest make it ring just as rich and timeless today as it did when I first saw it as a young child.
From the arduously-tasked, messianic Atreyu (Noah Hathaway) to the enigmatic Childlike Empress (Tami Stronach), these characters become part of your life in exactly the way the story intends. Making a case for reality in fiction, the Neverending Story is everyone's childhood fantasy, to become the hero of a world unlike one's own.
It's every bit as good as Star Wars or The Wizard of Oz, and every bit as untouchably classic in my opinion.
