Review of The NeverEnding Story (1984) by Sophie D — 22 Feb 2011
One of my fave movies as a kid. It's completely bonkers watching it now but as an epic fantasy movie it has all the necessary elements. Amazing special effects for it's day, one of the memorable childhood heartbreaks as well (Artax the horse anyone?) memorable support characters and scenes as well as some great puppet work.
Falkor the Luck Dragon especially is the one thing I remember about this movie and for me is one of the best puppet creations (after Yoda of course). The story itself is great and is reminiscient of the Princess Bride in how it's told and it has a great twist for youngsters as well.
Good message at the heart of the movie make this, for me at least, an all time classic, especially when you hear that cheesy 80's theme tune. Altogether now...The Never-ending Story! Ah ah ah, ah ah ah ah.
