Review of The NeverEnding Story (1984) by Ally C — 15 Apr 2011
Hen I was 5 years old, The Neverending Story was my favourite film in the world. This was supplanted by Labyrinth when I was 8 and so on until Chinatown took its current place when I was 26 or so. No matter how I was going to respond to the film today was irrelevant to that 5 year old mesmerised by the story within the story, the puppets, the flying dog/dragon and the most postmodern of plots to happen to children's cinema since The Wizard of Oz.
The film stood up too. I mean not in a Rango way where there are more jokes for adults than children but in the way that it is an innocent tale celebrating the power of kids imaginations and that's all you need for a kids film.
I imagine it stands up alot better than some films enjoyed in your childhood and that 5 year old thought it was as real watching it as Bastian did reading it.
