Review of The NeverEnding Story (1984) by Baurushan J — 20 Mar 2012
The Neverending Story is one of the greatest kids films anyone has ever seen. It takes us back to the times when movies like The Wizard of Oz and E.T.:Extra Terrestrial were made. It's well known for it's magical elements and it's complex storylines and magical elements.
The story is about Bastian who finds a book from a strange bookstore called The Neverending Story and steals it in order to read it. He opens the book and starts to read the story about a child-like empress from a land called Fantasia is concerned about who will take over the land if she dies.
She then decides it's best for her to stay alive so she sends a warrior to find a cure for The Nothing which is a plague caused by blighted dreams and hopeless fantasies. As he continues onwards to find the cure, he encounters an assortment of strange creatures.
Bastian also realizes that he is catapulted into the land of Fantasia himself and the only way they can save the land is by Bastian himself. Directed by Wolfgang Petersen who later went onto direct Troy and The Perfect Storm, this movie is a perfect example of not only a perfect kids movie but a perfect kids adaptation.
The Neverending Story gets a 10/10.
