Review of The NeverEnding Story (1984) by Alex M — 08 Dec 2012
Another guilty pleasure, more for the nostalgia factor. An incredible children's fantasy film. For adults, it's complete garbage unfortunately. It's high adventure, and the viewer has to suspend alot of disbelief to really enjoy it.
There's alot of things I can pick wrong in the movie. the story for one, being based on an original fantasy book, seems to meander and you get a sense it's really about nothing...as any kid who watches this as a child, they will relate with Bastian and his yearning for adventures and meeting creatures and different people of another world.
the makeup, creature effects and set design are incredibly creative and inventive of the time. its got nice practical effects and the music was enchanting. But the story, at its core, is the one thing that hurts this movie.
