Review of The NeverEnding Story (1984) by Humberto O — 23 Feb 2014
An amazing, sincere and simple fantasy movie, with an astounding visual, great soundtrack and full of symbolism. The acting of the child talents is impressive. While it strays from the book (at some points it's completely different), I don't see why Michael Ende would dislike this, specially considering how difficult it is to adapt books to the big screen (but it was also his work, so I guess I wouldn't be able to understand how he felt seeing his work "butchered").
I think they did a wonderful job. The second movie uses the second half of the book as a base and it's a total mess (I like it, but it's not a good movie), however this one is great, despite abusing a little of some of the cliches that were used in kids movies at that time, and doesn't deserve this treatment.
