Review of The NeverEnding Story (1984) by Ryan H — 12 Jul 2014
It is what it is, y'know? A nostalgic wave of matte paintings, puppetry and miniatures set to a song by Giorgio Moroder, the master of 80's synth.
You will not find brilliant acting- the child who plays Bastion is practically unwatchable in his over-acting. Puppets that once looked fantastic now look pretty drab and ridiculous, but hey- that's why you're watching this. It takes you back to your childhood.
To be fair, the matte paintings are beautiful, and the synth heavy score is appealing to those with ears for it. The movie has heart, which forgives a lot of its technical shortcomings when viewed by today's audience.
I believe I speak for all of us when I say... FALCOR!!!11!!!
