Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by Jané J — 24 Jun 2016
Beautiful visual storytelling, at it's ugliest.
This film is definitely bizarre, as the majority of the narrative is told through visuals and symbolism, but it's in no way pretentious or too deep for someone to understand. The first half of the film is an odd visual spectacle as you watch the main character become consumed by the beauty industry, but the film completely shocks and changes tone at the second half. It's a very bizarre, and maybe grotesque movie towards the end, but it all serves a purpose which I appreciated. This is a film for both men and women, but not for the faint of heart.
