Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by Tony F — 28 Jun 2016
Nicolas Winding Refn has to be the most stylistic director of this generation. As a fan of "Drive" and "Only God Forgives" I was already used to his filming style. The Neon Demon is a shocking film to watch and for some, maybe a bit too much.
The use of colours and themes are very "Dario Argento" influenced and the score is ultra psychedelic and perfect. Elle Fanning and Jena Malone were crazy good in their roles. The third act of this film takes an absolute insane turn that is both disturbing and beautiful all at once.
However as whole this film is more style over substance. I still enjoyed it, but I think many will be left saying "What the f**k just happened?".
