With shades of Jodorowsky, Refn plunges head-first into his most committed homage to David Lynch with a hypnotic, bizarrely transfixed meditation on beauty and horror. Mesmerizing rather than elliptical, the shallow story of fashion and Los Angeles is nevertheless a cinematic triumph of tone and visual flurry.
