Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by Justin J — 23 Jun 2016
The best part of the movie was the casting of Elle Fanning and the performance she gives. Second best part, probably the lighting. Other than that, this was an enjoyable but ultimately hallow experience for me.
I get that it wants to be that, but it's still that. I'm a fan of Refn's (his name looks like a typo) work but this didn't quite have the kick to it that I found in his other movies. You might think going in that it's a commentary on beauty and all that, but it doesn't take you through that in the way you might expect or hope, it's just about that because it is.
It's visually poetic and mysterious, so it may be worth a shot, depending on who you are.
