Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by Willy O — 07 Jul 2016
While it's not Refn's best film, it is still intriguing. The message about how women are sometimes overly obsessed with their appearance is very well portrayed. The acting is great, especially from Jenna Malone's character Ruby, who in my opinion steals the show.
The musical score and cinematography are pitch perfect. But similar to Only God Forgives (Refn's last movie) the story gets jumbled at times; both the last act, and the ending are totally fucked up and don't make any sense with the overall story, and a few of the side characters were very unnecessary, such as Keanu Reeves' Hank.
