Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by Nathaniel M — 27 Jun 2016
A satire on vanity, a horror about jealousy, and a tragedy of hubris. Not a movie anyone could really get into except to view it as a piece of art. The light story, in favor of visual character study, allows Refn to focus on images to get to the core of a feeling.
Only God Forgives was surprisingly redemptive, as was Drive, but there is no one to absolve sins in The Neon Demon.
