Review of The Neon Demon (2016) by Max B — 23 Jun 2016
As beautiful as it is horrifying, The Neon Demon is a scathing look inside the fashion industry that both rewards and punishes the narcissistic nature of its characters. Wondrously shot, acted and scored, the film kept me glued to the screen right up until the credits were over.
This film falls between Drive and Only God Forgives in terms of style and tone. Not pseudo mainstream like Drive, but also not as impenetrable as Only God Forgives, but what all three have in common are their twisted tales that the Brother's Grimm would be proud of.
The deliberate pacing may turn off some, and it's disturbing third act may turn off others, but for those who like both, you may be in for an absolute treat. One of 2016's best films.
