Review of The Negotiator (1998) by Daniel T — 25 Apr 2008
Some people talk about how underrated this film is, some talk about how overrated it is. For me, the film boils down to two talented actors with a snappy script, and passable direction. You'll enjoy it, but you'll swear you've seen it 5 times before; and after the first viewing you'll be picking out some of the crappy one liners and action-film cliches from your teeth.
And on the topic of Spacey, yeah he's a great character actor and all, sometimes I just wish he could try a different hat on. And sometimes his movie choices are destructive. His performances are always intense, but quite often he can't hold the film up by himself, at least Sam Jackson keeps it real and takes every film he can get. File this one on top of the Life of David Gale and a shade below Se7en.
