Review of The Negotiator (1998) by Sarah . — 28 Oct 2011
I'm surprised that few people have seen this little gem of a Thriller. It was one of the first DVD's I ever bought and still remains very high in my estimations. Samuel L. Jackson is Danny Roman, a top police negotiator accused of corruption and murder.
Desperate, with nowhere to turn and the police bearing down on him he is forced to take hostages himself to gain enough time he needs to find the truth and clear his name. After a number of failed negotiations he demands to speak with a negotiator from another precinct: Chris Sabian played by Kevin Spacey.
Sabian is renowned for his analytical approach to negotiations and his ability to get to the truth. These are two powerful performances from two great actors. There are many twists and turns with suspicions pointing to a number of characters as we see Sabian piece together the real facts.
With a great supporting cast and a hugely immersive and interesting story packed with mystery and intrigue, this is a rewarding and exciting film that will certainly top off your weekend in style.
