Review of The Nature of Existence (2010) by Sara R — 22 May 2010
My son's assignment for school this week to was to watch a documentary and review it. Turns out the University was doing a special screening of The Nature of Existence. I must say that the diverse cast of characters in the film took me by surprise!! They had everyone from Christian Drag Racers to Buddhist Monks to Indian Gurus and staunch, English atheists!! I sent my son to a parochial school his entire life, so this was wonderful way for him to get a taste of the many, different belief systems that he will be encountering when he goes away to college in New York City in the Fall.
I have honestly not encountered such an entertaining documentary in quite some time, with the exception of the Michael Moore films. However, his point of view seems awfully biased & makes me wonder if the opinions of the folks he's interviewing are really being represented.
This new filmmaker however, really takes us on a journey to the world that these people live in. We see the poor Indian people living in poverty and we see the simple American folks enjoying their Sunday mornings at the drag race track.
My only complaint is that there is so much information in the film and it made me want to discuss so many aspects of it as I was viewing it. It made me go deep in to thought, but I didn't want to miss what was happening on the screen.
I will have to see it again when it hits the theaters this Summer.
