Review of The Nativity Story (2006) by Andrew S — 23 Oct 2009
Kudos to director Catherine Hardwicke I mean to go from her first feature film which was a realistic, dark, and gritty portrayal of the the extremes that thirteens year olds go through to this family friendly version of a classic tale.
She certainly shows us her versatility as a director. The film was ok nothing amazing about it. I thought Keisha Castle-Hughes could have done a much better job than she did I was a little disappointed by her performance.
Also it would have been more interesting if the love angle was played up a little more. Mary didn't want to wed to Joseph but it was clear se fell in love with him over their journey to the city. So I think it would been a lot more interesting if that was portrayed more over the course of the film.
Also found some of prophetic scenes with the angels a bit too over the top. She should done it more grounded like Mel Gibson did with Passion of the Christ.
