Review of The Nativity Story (2006) by Adam B — 28 Jul 2008
Alexander Siddig and Kiesha Castle Hughes are among the stars in Catherine Hardwicke's version of the Nativity story, or the birth of Jesus of Nazereth. Ironically, Hughes, who played Mary, was actually pregnant, but not so far along as intended in the movie.
It's the first move for Siddig where his character didn't end up killed in some way. His previous work on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was another exception. Hughes was an oscar nominee for Whale Rider when she was 12.
Pased evenly and directed well, with actors that passed for middle eastern, (as many or all Hollywood adaptations never got it right), the film is a fine version of the classic Biblical story, mainly from the book of John.
