Review of The Nativity Story (2006) by Rachel E — 12 Jul 2010
The focus of this film was to recapture the events surrounding the birth of Jesus around 2000 years ago. Everyone from the angels, Sheppard?s, and wise men are all in this movie, but the film itself is based around the holy family itself for the most part.
The film does pay close attention to Joseph and his chance taking by accepting everything on simply faith alone but it did not show consistency with the new testament in showing the substance and importance that pregnancy would have on a young virgin.
Joseph did not seem to get much of a role in the original Christmas story so it was great to see him get a bigger part in this movie. I felt that this movie was pretty much consistent with the Old Testament which made it somewhat dull but it showed what I felt to be the closest to what actually took place in the original working rather than the New Testament.
This film was a great description of what Christmas truly should be showing that Christmas is more about giving rather than receiving which is how most people perceive it as. Although this film may have been a bit boring it had great acting, production, and related great to the original story aside from the New Testament.
If it would have been more closely related to the New Testament it would have most likely been more entertaining but the director made his point clear that the original work was what he wanted the audience to see and understand.
The film simply trailed the prophecy and the visions of god which instruct him of his wife having a child that will become a prophet and that they must bear way for the lord. This was an excellent film that stayed on the story line and didn?t add anything other than what belonged.
