Review of The Namesake (2006) by Lisa B — 04 Oct 2008
I found this to be an intriguing movie about reconciling life in two different cultures, about growing up and coming of age, about growing old and facing the inevitable losses of life. The Bengali culture has long fascinated me, and this movie gave a broad, sweeping view of different Bengali traditions.
Kal Penn really shined in this, as did Tabu. Though at times it seemed the story was hard to follow and connections difficult to make, it was nicely brought together in the end.
