Review of The Namesake (2006) by Dj . — 06 Jun 2009
Sometimes a name has so much in it, this is perhaps the finest and most realistic story about cross cultural clash in an indian american family. An Indian family moves into USA from Kolkata, they want to raise their children in a manner which glues a traditional, conservative oriental philosophy with ultra cool and diametrically opposite occidental one.
Their son, played by Kal Penn originally an ABCD "American Born Confused Desi", turned into a complete man aftre life-shattering event followed. This film shows the story that all Indians here feel - the fear you have about your loved ones safety back home, coping with the new culture, recalling old memories etc.
True, cordial picture of Kolkata, mesmerizing Taj Mahal and overall love for traditions and culture - this is surely a movie to be remembered.
