Review of The Naked Spur (1953) by Jonathan R — 15 Oct 2007
Reminiscent of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and 3:10 to Yuma, The Naked Spur stars Jimmy Stewart as a rancher looking to raise some capital by capturing a wanted outlaw and claiming the reward. He gathers a couple of partners on the way who demand he split it - leading to some tension and untrustfulness - all encouraged by the easy-smiling outlaw.
Stewart, as always, is a very capable lead, and he is the best part of the movie. In the end, he has to make a decision - is he really the kind of person to claim a bounty? Can someone worth money retain their human dignity?
