Review of The Naked Kiss (1964) by Carl C — 03 Sep 2007
Pre Scorsese and even Casavettes, this sordid film about a prostitute trying to go straight is clearly influential on the fore mentioned directors. There is a nice juxtaposition in the opening scene where the sleazy jazz music overhauls the events.
A fine film overall and with a fine central performance, even though I wasn't rooting for her as I had a certain unlikeability about her. But the contrast between rural and urban life is finely crafted, not Fullers best but up there.
