Review of The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) by Dave C — 11 Dec 2010
Not only does it have one of the greatest opening credits sequences ever, it's the spiritual successor to Police Squad!, one of the funniest short-lived comedies on television. There are way more hits than misses here.
If there's one thing I did not like about the movie is that they changed Nielsen's character enough to make him different from how he was in the show. In the show, he's the deadpanned, serious cop that reacts normally to all the silly shit occurring around him. In the movie, he is equally silly. Still good, but different, and not in a way I preferred.
Still, hard to argue with this one. It's parody gold.
