Review of The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991) by Berigan T — 10 Mar 2009
He's back and he hasn't changed one bit. Our lovable lead, Lt. Frank Drebin once more finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy with major political ramifications. The results are often as hilarious as his previous big screen adventure, though not quite as fresh the second time around.
The film works because it maintains the same thorough understanding of its universe and characters as its predecessor, and this time has included Robert Goulet in the fold. His smooth, suave, oily demeanor provides an amusing counterpoint to Frank's literal, straightforward, no nonesense approach during their confrontations, some of which are among the film's many highlights.
At its best, its every bit as amusing as the original and sometimes more so. At its worst, its still funny. Fans of the former can't go wrong here.
