Review of The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991) by Andrew H — 07 Dec 2010
Quite a good spoof which has some classic comedy moments and quite a lot of slapstick comedy too. Most of the film is truly genuinely funny. However there are parts which are a bit silly and are prolonged for no apparent reason. There are many comical moments, some of which occur as the camera is simply panning across and others occur in the background. The camera work and editing is very good and it is this that sometimes makes the joke.
Leslie Neilson is excellent as Lieutenant Frank Drebin, especially when he is trying to be serious and turns out to be comic genius. Sometimes when delivering his lines his face doesn't change and the audience has to think twice of if they heard him correctly. Richard Griffiths also must be given credit as he plays a Doctor and one of the villains and he plays both really well and adds his own humour in with both roles.
Overall a good comedy film with good jokes and slapstick comedy, in some areas however it becomes a bit too silly and the joke goes on for too long.
