Review of The Naked City (1948) by David A — 31 Aug 2008

While most will call this a film noir, it is really the anti film noir. It has little or nothing to do with the seediness of the city or the dark nature of the criminal world, instead the film focuses entirely on the police narrative.

It basically starts where the noir film would leave off. That's not to say its a bad film, it's still good, just mislabeled. It does appear a bit dated, but was certainly inventive for its own time with an interesting use of voice-over narrative and on location filming in New York City.
