Review of The Naked City (1948) by Adam C — 11 Feb 2010
Very unique. The film is gritty, it's pulp, it's film noir, it's a murder mystery all wrapped into one. It feels like "The French Connection," if "The French Connection" were made 25 years earlier.
Great shots of real, late 1940s New York. And everything in the film just feels real. The narration is somewhat cheesy, but that's what gives it a pulp feel. Jules Dassin is awesome. Can't wait to see his other Criterion works.
