Review of The Music Man (1962) by Andrew O — 08 Nov 2013
Probably my 2nd favorite musical after Singing in the Rain so far. It has the most imaginative songs I've seen so far as well. Maybe not my favorite songs, but some of the numbers are very clever. The weak point of the movie, though, is probably not portraying Harold Hill's supposed redemption well; the movie feels like its missing a key scene where this happens more.
The love story is also pretty weak in terms of motivations (especially Marian's). These are easy to overlook, though, and The Music Man is still a top tier musical.
