Review of The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) by Michael W — 06 Oct 2012
This movie seems to be probably one of the most famous Muppet movies. I, however, have no idea why. Well, yeah the movie is good, but why is it the most remembered? I just can't help but feel that even though there is a lot going on and the film is entertaining, it is quite forgettable in my opinion.
I've seen the movie multiple times and still can't remember everything that happens. The movie uses every cliche in the book, seems to defy logic one or two times too many, and also drags out a lot of jokes and forces them and forces them to where they aren't funny anymore.
I do like the music though, even if the lyrics are unbelievably cheesy. But, this is why I recommend this movie for kids mostly. They might like it, but to me it, does kind of lose some of the Muppets original appeal, which was that their jokes and obscure humor would entertain both kids and adults.
Maybe one of the main reasons I never really got into this movie is because it has my least favorite muppet in it a lot, Rizzo. Yeah, I know a lot of people really like him, but to me, he's just the Jar Jar Binks of the Muppets.
Just my opinion. The movie isn't a complete waste of time, but it just isn't my favorite. I suggest checking it out.
