Review of The Muppets (2011) by Joseph O — 11 Jul 2012
Manages to recapture the magic lost with Jim Henson's tragic passing all those years ago. A hysterically funny and heart-warming script is backed by some stellar direction and ridiculously catchy songs.
The only major flaw - and really the only thing keeping it from being a nostalgic masterpiece of Pixar proportions - is the horrible pacing of the whole thing. It goes by much too fast, leaving no breathing space whatsoever, and really only a handful of the classic Muppets get moments to shine.
But in the end, it is a beautiful little thing. A revival of a classic children's property that truly understands the source material and isn't bogged down by needless pop culture references or toilet humour.
And, in the end, it's just damn good optimistic fun, and that's a ridiculously refreshing thing.
