Review of The Muppets (2011) by Michael M — 03 Feb 2013

It works best as an homage to these characters that we all remember and all grew up with, commenting on their perceived irrelevance in this cinematic world that has an increased focus on grittier characters (brilliantly parodied in the film as the "Moopets").

As a movie itself, it doesn't always work though. The human characters aren't that interesting, and I didn't like the unbalanced amount of focus on new Muppet Walter. It also brushes over most of my personal favorite Muppets such as Rizzo and Professor Honeydew.

It's still a charming and funny movie that left me with a big smile on my face though, and it's damn near impossible not to like at least a little bit. It could have been more, but what it is is still far better than anyone was probably expecting it to be.
