Review of The Muppets (2011) by Ben G — 13 May 2013
The Muppets is very far from awful. While the story is very typical of children's movies, the presentation of the story typically feels very original. The songs can be a lot of fun, sans a few, and the sentimentality and longing for an age when optimism was the norm give the movie an appeal for adults as well.
The main problem arises however with the thrown together villain Tex Richman played by Chris Cooper. His motivation never really feels real. Richman's rap also makes the audience feel very uneasy.
If the movie fails excessively anywhere, it's here. With a better developed villain, the movie would be a lot stronger. However, the movie makes for a very fun hour and forty-two minutes.
