How I Met Your Mother's star Jason Segal and former Enchanted star Amy Adams help guide James Bobin's re-invention of The Muppets to a entertaining and light hearted watch.
Segal and Adams play a zany loved up couple who appear as though they have spent a decade in an asylum. Obviously, it is aimed at the younger audience and is therefore supposed to be shown in this manner; eventually after the inconvenient cheese and cringe you will settle into the movie, basically you get used to it.
Anyway, Gary and Mary (Segal and Adams), the couple in the mention, are travelling to Los Angeles with Gary's favourite muppet style friend Walter (voiced by Peter Linz) for their 10th Anniversary. However, when Walter discovers the plans of evil oil tycoon Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to destroy the remains of the Muppets' studios for the oil which lies beneath, the trio must re-unite the old Muppet crew and raise at least a staggering $10million to buy it back!
The faces of Kermit the frog, Miss Piggy and Gonzo etc. will no doubt form a smile on those young and old. The fact that The Muppets which were puppets in their own 1970's TV show have expanded over five generations is sensational; not mentioning the fact that the humerous gang are still going strong now.
The Muppets (this film) is very humerous if not hilarious due to the mildness of the humour. This isn't a bad thing however as the emotional weight it carries is rather large and the easily upset may be using the cliched 'there's something in my eye' line on a number of occasions.
Would you be a Muppet to miss it? No not really.
Would you be a Muppet not to give it a chance? Yes definitely. Beyond the cheesy romance and script, there is plenty of fun, plenty of heart and plenty of things you can debate about afterwards.
