Review of The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) by Anssi V — 10 Oct 2011
Okay, this film has good things in it and then it has annoying things in it. The story itself is a classic, of course, and the film does it credit. Plus the muppets are fun to look at and some of the songs aren't that bad (although some of them are rather unimaginative).
On the other hand, some of the characters are really stupid and annoying, especially Rizzo the Rat. I wanted to throttle that little bastard for interrupting the story over and over and over... It was maddening! Plus, it was really distracting to see Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge.
He played his part well, so it's not that, but his usual roles are all good-natured and -humoured, so the Scrooge's role really just didn't fit. All in all, this is a nice Christmas film, but it's not a masterpiece or the best adaptation of A Christmas Carol ever.
Oh well, at least the three spirits were a blast, although the last one was... well, weird.
