Review of The Mummy's Ghost (1944) by Terry W — 17 Jun 2008
This part of the series had some shockingly poor elements. Particularly one scene in which a security guard was supposed to break through a plate glass window, which he barely touches, ending on a shot that pushes into a close-up of Chaney as the mummy only to see the shadow of the camera on him. Oh, and in that same scene, the mummy carefully shuts a door behind him... this being only a few scenes after smashing through the side of a barn. I wasn't aware of how fickle mummy's tastes for entrances and exits were.
Inconsistencies and poor technique aside, it continues in the spirit of the series relying on cheap thrills and vague explanations, but really giving the audience what they want, which is more of The Mummy.
Not quite sure the logic behind the end of the film, considering they were supposed to return to their tomb in Egypt, but I guess the bottom of a lake in New England is just as good.
