Review of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) by Writefilmlive21 — 23 Dec 2012
Although I just love the first two Mummy movies, I was leery when I heard of a third one coming out. After all, it had been a while since the second film and sequels released after that long a time (like Rush Hour 3) usually fail in capturing the magic of the predecessors.
However, I was a big enough fan of the franchise to give the movie a go, and I kept my expectations low. Unfortunately, they were not low enough. This movie was so unexpectedly and abominably bad that it shames the entire franchise to brand it as a Mummy movie.
All but one of the action scenes are a clumsy mess of crap, the acting is dismal, the special effects are overblown, the mummy is just stupid, and it is completely anticlimactic. Even Brendan Fraser, who I hoped would be the ONE redeeming thing in this film, completely forgets his charming portrayal of Rick O Connell from the first two and instead turns in a corny, wannabe, unbelievably painful performance.
If you want a good popcorn flick, go for either of the first two movies - DO NOT waste your time with this landfill of a 3-quel. It is simply, and truly, horrid - a piece of crap to which a toilet would lend far too much dignity.
