Review of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) by C C B — 03 Apr 2011
Well, after watching the first two movies which had made me a big fan of the franchise, the announcement of the third entry in the franchise pulled high anticipation among all the fans, including me. There was a doubt whether relocation of the plot out of the ancient Eygpt, which was the setting for the first 2 movies, could produce another good movie. The answer turned out to be: yes, it could, but definitely not in this way..
I just missed the old Mrs. O' connor, the abscence of Rachel Weisz becomes so obvious in the movie, the chemistry between Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello looks artificial and not strong enough to save the movie, the chemistry between Weisz and Fraser was the key of success for the first two entries. The movie continues the fun elements from the first two, though. Probably if Sommers had directed again, we wouldn't have criticized this much, but Joe Johnston, who is famous for directing unsuccessful sequels to hugely successful movies, does his best but still it is still not enough to save the movie.
Anyhow since I am a big fan of the first two, I cant give it lower than 5. especially the effects were really nice.
Looking forward to the fourth movie..
OVERALL: 5.5/10.
