Review of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) by Peter N — 05 Aug 2012
It's hard to understand the overwhelming hate for this movie. Although it is a sure sign that there will never be an entry that can top the original, it's still a slight improvement over the forgettable second film.
The series shift to the Orient is a refreshing change, and helps the film stand out compared to the first two. Brendan Fraser is his usual quirky self, but it takes some getting used to in order to come to terms with the absence of Rachel Weisz, seeing as how her character is still present, but in a completely re-imagined format.
They might as well have written her in as an entirely different person, but oh well. Once again, the story really doesn't require that much intelligence, nor do the interspersed jokes, but there's enough danger and intrigue to keep things rolling at a good pace.
It leaves things open for a fourth film, but it's probably not needed. This one serves as a satisfactory conclusion to the series.
