Review of The Mummy Returns (2001) by Kenny S — 10 Mar 2011

While not awful, the sequel to the remake of the Mummy is certainly not as good as the first. The pros include the visuals and action sequences, as they are all pretty top notch for their time (its funny how 10 years makes such a difference), the fact that a good portion of the cast returns, and the pacing make the movie move swiftly.

I also liked the dirigible boat thing. The cons are that the characters are mostly sidelined for the action and special effects, that one of the new characters is an annoying little kid, and that it is FILLED with plot contrivance and holes.

The Rock isn't too good, but in reality his appearance is brief, before being mostly played by an obvious CGI version of himself as a scorpion monster. I can't say it was terrible, because it had plenty to enjoy as a "turn off your brain" fun popcorn film, but you had to turn off your brain a lot more this time around than in the previous film, which is a shame.
