Review of The Mummy (2017) by Brian D — 07 Aug 2017
This is one of the worst films in the Tom Cruise arsenal, I just hope the MI series doesn't hit the low of this poor film. The story is a great mess of good intentions and too much future plans for the dark universe, Cruise is a giant miscast by Universal.
I normally reserve my hatred for indie films that attempt such high concepts and fail but this is easily one of the worst high budget train wrecks for quite some time, the Fantastic Four reboot comes to mind.
Russell Crowe is hamfisted and his creation is lacking any real interest or back story, it makes me wonder why they decided to walk down this road. The original Mummy films were not great films but they had campy fun that this overly series film does not.
The dark universe is a dud out of the gates and I can't see them course correcting without losing all the creative teams involved, Kurtzman is not the right choice for the franchise moving forward.
Believe the reviews, this film is a waste of time and is as bad as everyone claims. 08-08-2017.
