Review of The Mummy (2017) by Kyle D — 24 Jun 2017
The Dark Universe is pretty much dead on arrival with the first installment. No one has been asking for a remake of The Mummy. Adding Tom Cruise to the universe does bring some gravitas but even his addition can't save this flop of a film.
There is no clear story besides another mummy wanting to take over the world and trying to introduce other characters into the universe like Russell Crowe's Dr. Jekyll seem very muddled. Since there is already plans for multiple films in the Dark Universe it is safe to say that this misstep of a film won't necessarily derail the future but those films now have to be that much better.
Some of the action pieces do help the audience stay engaged but the lack of in depth content make this a flop at the summer box office.
