Review of The Mummy (2017) by Michele T — 09 Jun 2017
Great makeup and storyline. Only weaknesses are special effects that are good but too long to hold interest or be realistic. Watching the plane crash I wondered how many times can you bang around the inside of a plane without injury or being sucked out.
The sand chase lost both direction and suspense. Both segments which should have been highlights were lost to poor editing and even worse an absense of any real sense of purpose. Saving graces were makeup, costuming, locations and a storyline that worked despite the poor editing.
Cruise pulls it off both with his perpetual boyish charm and athleticism and gets a good grade for playing a character whose emotions and actions are twisted by a curse. Crowe is less convincing and appears to sleep walked through his part.
Still I like bubble gum movies even with flaws.
