Review of The Mummy (2017) by Tiffany W — 09 Jun 2017
I went into the theater tonight thinking that I would be laughing my tush off at a crappy monster disaster and instead I walked away going "Wow, they did a good job for what they had to work with.
" I mean, let's be honest, it's a story about a mummy and a curse - you aren't going to get something amazing out of that but I don't understand the low reviews it's getting on there.
This is obviously not a re-boot of the 99/2000's Mummy, and it wouldn't need to be anyway, but all the same - seeing people rate it low because it isn't that is pretty ridiculous. Not that I think this movie is absolutely amazing or anything, but certainly not 17% bad.
The story was interesting and kept you going. Russell Crowe was great, I hope to see a Jekyll and Hyde movie in the future. Tom Cruise did good as normal and the story of Ahmanet was brief, but brought you in enough that you almost rooted for her even knowing what she really was.
The humor was eh, but in action or horror films, I don't expect anything laugh-out-loud and that would kind of ruin the thrill of it, in my opinion. The airplane scene had me for a minute, but mostly because it played on a real fear of mine.
It was action-horror and I don't regret seeing it in the slightest. I have high hopes for the Dark Universe, there's a lot of potential there.
