The only two things I liked about this were the visual effects and Brendan Frasier's wisecracks. And even they have their moments of ludicrousness. At some point I wasn't moved by the effects: I was simply disgusted.

The mummy opens its big mouth and howls at us like a male banshee. In another scene, it chomps on a beetle like it's a biscuit. All these scenes are meant to impress us, and add a bit of comedic light as well.

The Mummy at least partially succeeds in maintaining this comedy-horror balance throughout. In addition, a special mention should be made of Brendan Frasier's humorous performance, although sometimes it got a little too funny.

But overall in the end, it just becomes inflated with shock effects that didn't really shock me, but on the contrary, just disgusted me. As I said before, only two things - the visual effects and Frasier's performance - are nearest to being commendable in The Mummy.
